What are Ornamental Trees?

Have you been looking at your flower bed or garden and are wondering what can you add to spruce it up a bit? Are you missing some color or just need some structure in the garden? If so, an ornamental tree may be what you are looking for.

Ornamental trees are grown for their aesthetic value. They have beautiful flowers and fragrances that are nice for enjoyment in your yard. Who wouldn’t like looking out their window and seeing pretty pink flowers on their tree or walking through their garden and smelling something wonderful? With ornamental trees, you can do that.

There are many different types of ornamental trees for you to choose from. Some have beautiful spring flowers, while others have beautiful fall colors. What type of tree you get depends on what you’re looking for. Below are some of the most common types. For more information about each one and what they look like contact Winding Creek Nursery & Garden.
  • Crabapple
  • Eastern redbud
  • Weeping cherry
  • Flowering dogwood
  • Sugar maple
  • Canadien hemlock
Ornamental trees can be used in a variety of different ways. They make great stand-alone trees and also look great in a cluster together. Some ornamental trees provide little shade for you, while others have loose canopies that allow sunshine to come through. Those that let the sunshine come through are great to put in your garden because it allows you to grow more plants, shrubs, and flowers underneath.

Now you might be wondering how much maintenance will ornamental trees take? The answer to that question depends on what kind of tree you get. Some require a great amount of care, while others do not. If you are someone who does not want to have to do maintenance on your tree, look for a tree that requires not a lot of pruning. Pruning is when you remove certain parts of the tree such as branches, buds, or roots. Again, to help find the tree that works best for you and your yard, contact Winding Creek Nursery and Garden.
